Bio
Adam O’Brien, Ph.D., LMHC, CASAC, is a master clinician, author, and researcher specializing in the neurobiology of complex trauma, structural dissociation, and behavioral compulsivity. He earned his Ph.D. in Addiction and is currently doing his postdoctoral work in Applied Recovery. As the founder of the Wounded Healers Institute (WHI), Dr. O'Brien acts as a leading voice in dismantling the traditional, compartmentalized "disease model" of addiction and the established "science" on how dissociation is anything but abnormal.
His scholarly work, most notably the Addiction as Dissociation Model (ADM), posits that the physical body is the psychological unconscious, storing unprocessed traumatic engrams that dictate adaptive compulsive behavioral patterns. He is the developer of the Path of the Wounded Healer (PWH) and the Meeting Area Screening and Assessment (MASA), an advanced somatic approached utilized to ensure "Unconscious Informed Consent" before doing trauma processing.
Dr. O'Brien is highly proficient in deep subcortical healing modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting (BSP), Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), and Psychedelic Care. Dr. O'Brien resides and practices in the Hudson Valley, dedicating his work to the spiritual, moral, and biological sovereignty of the individual.
